At-Will Employment

At-Will Employment

At-will employment is the default employment relationship in most U.S. states, meaning that either the employer or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any legal reason, with or without notice. However, there are important exceptions — employers cannot terminate employees for discriminatory reasons, in retaliation for protected activities, or in violation of an employment contract. A PEO helps businesses understand at-will employment laws in their state, develop proper documentation practices, and reduce the risk of wrongful termination claims.
